On Writing Crap

Posted on June 13, 2008. Filed under: Freelance Writing, Learning Curve | Tags: , , , , , , , |

I turned in some crap work this week.

I could blame a list of things: school, a migraine (that’s still raging), a lack of sleep.

Because of summer school’s condensed nature, every thing is rushed. I’ve noticed I’m rushing every thing outside of school, too. That mode of operation has never worked well for me and leads to, well, crap in all directions.

Migraines. I suffer from these bastards occasionally and am probably suffering now because of, well, two of the three reasons listed above plus wacky weather and maybe even hormones. They significantly impact my ability to think and be creative.

Guess what would help:

Sleep. Geeze. What an elusive creature.

The fact is, had I taken more time to re-read the crap in question a couple more times before submitting it, it would be significantly less crappy– harried schedule, headache, nap-time or not.

Knowing less than par work, with my name on it, will float around on the internet forever is much worse than a migraine.

Let this be a lesson to me.

Slow down, Ma’am; you’re going too fast. Here’s your warning ticket.
