A blog instead of a term paper?

This semester I am working with a 25-year Associated Press veteran on an independent study class that is supposed to mirror a feature writing class. Since my goal is to be a freelance writer, we are gearing the class in that direction. My professor is as nervous as I, since he’s a newspaper man and hasn’t had to jump through the fire-hoops most freelancers work with daily.

Part of the process goes like this: I come up with my own agenda and submit it to the prof. and department chair for approval. In the original verion, I suggested that I sum up the semester of query letters and travel articles with a term paper.

In our first meeting, however, the prof. suggested a blog instead.
